Vaccine Innovation Fund

Our Vaccine Innovation Fund supports breakthrough technologies that could revolutionize how vaccines are developed, manufactured, and delivered globally. We've invested in novel platforms that can reduce vaccine development timelines from years to months and technologies that eliminate cold chain requirements, making vaccines viable in remote or resource-limited settings.

The fund has supported eight promising technologies from concept to clinical testing, three of which have now entered late-stage trials. One particularly promising innovation is a patch-based delivery system that allows vaccines to be self-administered without needles, potentially transforming vaccination campaigns in regions with healthcare worker shortages.

Medical AI Research Collaborative

This collaborative brings together healthcare providers, AI researchers, and medical experts to develop artificial intelligence applications that can enhance healthcare delivery in low-resource settings. Projects include diagnostic algorithms that can interpret medical images with expert-level accuracy using basic equipment, predictive tools that identify patients at risk of disease complications, and systems that optimize resource allocation in overburdened health facilities.

We've established rigorous testing protocols to ensure these technologies work effectively across diverse populations and settings. The collaborative emphasizes equity in AI development, ensuring that technologies are designed to address health disparities rather than amplify them.

Mental Health Access Initiative

The Mental Health Access Initiative addresses the critical gap in mental healthcare services globally. We've developed and validated a stepped care model that combines community-based support systems, digital interventions, and integration with primary healthcare. This approach makes basic mental health services accessible even in areas with severe shortages of specialized providers.

Through partnerships with 18 local health systems, the initiative has trained over 1,200 community health workers and primary care providers in mental health screening, basic interventions, and appropriate referral pathways. Digital tools provide guided self-help interventions for common conditions like depression and anxiety, while facilitating supervision and support for frontline workers.
